Dear Division 20,
It is with my greatest pleasure and excitement to announce that I, Stephanie Shen, a junior at Parsippany High School, will proudly serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Division 20 for the 2017-2018 service year. In a nutshell, my job as the lieutenant governor is to serve as the liaison between Division 20 and our district, New Jersey District of Key Club International. I will be attending your general and board meetings as often as I can, as well as any fundraising or service events you may hold. I will report what every school in our division is doing to the district board once a month so they can keep track of our district’s progress in terms of service hours and contributions to our District Project, Hunger in New Jersey. This will ensure maximum productivity and success within the next service year.
Influenced by my brother in the fall of 2014, who was Vice President of our Key Club at that time, I found myself standing in a crowd of ninety or so other students at my first ever Key Club meeting in September of freshman year. Just being a regular general member for the first 4 months of the school year, never in a million years would I have ever expected that Key Club would bring me to where I am now. I served as the historian for the 2015-2016 service year as a freshman and sophomore, where I was lucky enough to have accidentally incorporated my hobby of photography into such a prestigious service organization because it led me to the passion I have for Key Club today. My view of Key Club changed dramatically when I attended the 2015 District Convention, still as a freshman, where I was at last exposed to the massive scale at which this club existed all throughout the state and nation and seeing a few hundred other individuals who loved this organization dearly. From there, I moved on to being the president for this past 2016-2017 service year of my home club. Being in constant contact with our Immediate Past LTG Vanessa Ting, as well as having a close friend who served the same position the year before, I thought, “Hey, I can and want to do that too!” So when the opportunity finally came to run for this position, I could not pass it up. I wanted to continue to spread my knowledge and passion of Key Club that I’ve acquired throughout the past two years to a larger group of service-driven individuals. And serving as your lieutenant governor gave me just that exact opportunity.
Other than being an active member in Key Club, I am also involved in our National Art Honor Society. I know, this is the part where you read my extracurricular and think, “That’s it?!” then proceed to pity me because I barely have any activities to put on my application when it comes to applying for colleges. But I will tell you this: I would not have it any other way because this means I will no doubt have all the possible time in the world to make Division 20 the best it can be. With that in mind, here are a few goals I have in order to make sure Division 20 is the most successful it can be within the next year:
• Establish a sense of unity and friendship within our division using social media, social gatherings, and division meetings/events.
• Have as many dues as possible of every club in our division paid and submitted to the district by November 1st when the new 2017-2018 school year starts in September.
• Have either in-person contact of a phone call with every club president at least once a month, every month.
• Visit each club at least once before the end of the school year, establishing a connection between myself, the officers, advisers, and general members.
• Have all officers trained before the end of the school year.
If you have made it this far, I applaud you! Please add me on all the platforms of communication, including social media, and DO NOT BE AFRAID TO CONTACT/ADD ME!
I am looking forward to helping even more people join in with the spirit of service that is so important to the foundation of Key Club. I cannot wait to start this wonderful service year ahead with you all! Thank you so much for your time.
Yours in Caring and Service,
Lieutenant Governor of Division 20
